To be eligible for a Skilled Independent visa, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old and no older than 45 years old on the date you lodge your visa application.
  • Have a skilled occupation that is on the Medium and Long-Term Skilled Occupation List (MLTSSL).
  • Score at least 65 points in the Skilled Migration Points Test.
  • Have a positive skills assessment from the relevant assessing authority for your occupation.
  • Meet the English language requirements.
  • Meet the health and character requirements.

If you are invited to apply for a Skilled Independent visa, you will need to lodge a complete visa application with all the necessary supporting documents. The processing time for a Skilled Independent visa can vary, but it is typically around 6 months.

Once your visa is granted, you will be able to live, work and study permanently in Australia. You will also be able to sponsor your eligible family members to come to Australia.

The Skilled Independent visa is a great option for skilled workers who want to live and work permanently in Australia. It is a points-tested visa, so the more points you score, the more likely you are to be invited to apply. If you are eligible for a Skilled Independent visa, I encourage you to apply.
