Tasmania Unveils Updates to Skilled Migration Program for 2024-25

Great news for skilled migrants aiming for Tasmania! The Tasmanian government has announced significant updates to their Skilled Migration State Nomination Program, effective from August 1, 2024. Let’s delve into the details:

Opening for Registrations of Interest:

  • Starting August 1, 2024 (12 PM), individuals can submit Registrations of Interest (ROIs) to express their desire for Tasmanian state nomination.

Key Program Changes:

  • Priority Attributes Revamped: The program introduces a new “orange-plus” category alongside the existing green attributes. Green attributes offer a faster processing timeline (invitation within 8 weeks), while orange-plus prioritizes applications with a high likelihood of receiving an invitation within 6 months.
  • Occupation Expansion: The Tasmanian Onshore Skilled Occupation List (TOSOL) welcomes 18 new occupation groups, encompassing 78 individual occupations. This opens doors for skilled professionals in various fields.
  • Fast-Track Pathway: Candidates with a skills assessment and directly related Tasmanian employment in a TOSOL occupation can qualify for permanent visa nomination after just six months of work.
  • Income Threshold Adjustments: Minimum eligibility requirements and priority attribute thresholds have been adjusted to reflect current Australian median and average earnings, along with the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold.
  • Critical Roles List Updated: The list prioritizes invitations for highly skilled roles. While 30 occupations have been removed, all remain high-priority and are now included in the updated TOSOL.
  • Enhanced Policy Guidance: More detailed information on Additional Information, Exclusions, and Definitions is available on the Migration Tasmania website.
  • Increased Service Fee: The service fee for applying for nomination has been raised to $360 (plus GST). However, submitting a Registration of Interest remains free.

Existing Applications and ROIs:

  • Applications lodged or invited before August 1, 2024, will be processed under the previous program requirements.
  • ROIs submitted before July 1, 2024, remain valid until their six-month expiry date or until an invitation is issued. They will be assessed based on the requirements in place at the time of submission.
  • New ROIs submitted after August 1, 2024, will be subject to the updated program guidelines.
