Calling all young adventurers with wanderlust and a thirst for new experiences! The Australian Working Holiday Maker (WHM) program just got even more exciting with a wave of updates. Whether you’re dreaming of sun-kissed beaches, vibrant cities, or lending a hand in disaster recovery, there’s an opportunity waiting for you.
Work for Good, Earn Your Stay:
From February 2nd, 2024, your dedication to rebuilding communities affected by natural disasters can pay off in unexpected ways. Paid or volunteer work in declared cyclone or severe weather zones now counts as “specified work,” opening doors to a second or even third WHM visa. So, lend a hand, make a difference, and extend your Australia adventure! Remember, this applies to work done since December 31st, 2021, and previous efforts in bushfire (since July 31st, 2019) and flood recovery (since December 31st, 2021) are still recognized.
New Partner, New Horizons:
Get ready to say “Mabuhay!” to the Philippines, the newest member of the WHM family! As of today, 200 young Filipinos and Australians can embark on a year-long cultural exchange, working and exploring each other’s stunning landscapes. Mark your calendars, as the official start date will be announced soon.
Simplified Process for Papua New Guinea:
Planning your Aussie escape from Papua New Guinea just got easier! Since August 1st, 2023, you no longer need a Letter of Support to apply for your WHM visa. Additionally, PNG joined the program in July 2023, allowing 100 of its citizens to experience Australia on a WHM visa each year.
Cheers to the UK! Expanded Opportunities:
Calling all Brits! The Australia-UK Free Trade Agreement brings exciting news for your WHM aspirations. As of July 1st, 2023, you can apply for a WHM visa between the ages of 18 and 35, and starting July 1st, 2024, you can score up to three WHM visas without fulfilling the “specified work” requirement. Pack your bags, mates, the Land Down Under awaits!
Remember the Rules:
While some temporary relaxations exist, visa condition 8547 limiting work with one employer to six months remains in effect until June 30th, 2023. Make sure to stay informed about the latest regulations.
India Incoming!
Mark your calendars, future Indian globetrotters! As part of the Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement, India is soon joining the WHM program. This means 1,000 young Indians aged 18-30 will be able to experience Australia’s magic on a one-year WHM visa, combining work and exploration. Stay tuned for application details!
Fast-Track Your Aussie Dream:
The Department of Home Affairs is committed to minimizing processing times for all WHM applications. So, make sure your application is complete and accurate to potentially enjoy a faster visa approval.
