What is SOP (Statement of Purpose)

An SOP gives a glimpse of an applicant’s academic history, intentions for studying the course among other information.

If we were to assume a student application as a human body then SOP or Statement of Purpose is the backbone on which the entire physical structure stands.

The entire application is basis an SOP. In layman’s, it could very well make or break the chances of admission. So, mentioning the right information is of utmost importance. An SOP gives a glimpse of an applicant’s academic history, intentions for studying the course among other information.

A good SOP would be able to convince the visa officer about the genuineness of the submitted application. It would also give a clear indication about the intentions of the student’s future plans post successful completion of the course. A good SOP would also entail why the student has chosen to study in that particular country and provide convincing reasons for it. A well written SOP will be easy to understand and the presentation of information in an SOP plays an extremely vital role.

SOP also defines a prospective student’s overall career goals and motivation. Most importantly an SOP must clearly reflect the potential benefit of the chosen course. The how, why, where and when are the other questions that need to answered in detail outlining the candidate’s inclination towards the chosen course and country.
